FAQ

how do I consign my garments and accessories at URBANITY?

Drop in to our store anytime we’re open! Located at 1887 Solano Avenue in beautiful North Berkeley,  URBANITY is close to other favorite local errands on Solano Avenue and in the Gourmet Ghetto and Northbrae neighborhoods.

Once you check in, one of our knowledgeable staff members will access your items for consignment and answer any questions you may have. Once your items which were chosen for consignment are added to your account you will receive an email of your item list. Your item list will include a pick up date, which is when you want to check in with URBANITY to arrange pickup of your unsold consignments.  Your items are put on the sales floor immediately after you receive your email item list, so check in often and watch your consignments earn you money back as they find new homes!

do you buy merchandise outright?

No. All merchandise is on consignment and consignors are paid after their items have sold.

what type of clothes do you accept? how do i know what labels and designers you stock?

We only accept luxury, designer and contemporary brands. Merchandise must be no older than 3 years, must be in season, clean and in excellent condition. To see a list of the labels that we carry, please see the Labels page. (This list is only a partial list - if a label or designer isn't on the list, it doesn't necessarily mean we don't accept that brand.)

do you accept vintage pieces?

We do accept a small amount of vintage, but because URBANITY is different from a thrift shop, we're very selective about the vintage merchandise we take in. The item in question must be either A) from a designer that is still relevant today (ex. Emilio Pucci, Chanel), or B) in sync with current trends. In either case, the item must be in excellent condition. Please use your best judgment when submitting vintage pieces for consignment.

is there anything that you don't accept?

We do not accept lingerie, undergarments or swimwear.

Does what time of year it is affect what kind of merchandise I can to consign?

Yes. Our stores are only able to sell merchandise (and get the best value for consignments) appropriate for the current season. That being said, luxury labels are always in demand - no matter the season we'll never turn away a WOW! piece. So, when you’re ready to edit your closet please inquire with us so we may update you on what items are in demand!

how do you decide on prices?

During the inventory input process, prices will be set at roughly 1/3 of original MSRP. The resale price range can vary up to 1/2 original MSRP depending on condition, demand, size and seasonality of each item.

when will i receive payment for my items which have sold?

Consignors can use their 50% store credit to shop in store at URBANITY any time after credit has accrued in their account. Consignors may also request a check payout to collect the 35% cash value which has accumulated in their account for their sold items once the 45 day consignment term has been met. Check payouts are issued every Tuesday, but consignors must make a check request (just call, email or drop in) before closing on Sundays so that your check will be waiting for you to pick up the following Tuesday, or later at your convenience. If your account balance is $25 or under you may collect it in cash over the counter anytime URBANITY is open.

what determines if my items will be sold online, in addition to in-store?

We select a fraction of in-store merchandise to also be sold online. You cannot request for your item to be selected, but you can tell us if for any reason you would NOT like your items online.

if an item of mine is listed for sale online, does that decrease its chances of selling?

No. All pieces put up online are still kept in-store and on the sales floor until they are purchased online or in the store. That being said, if your item is put up for sale online, it increases its exposure and the likelihood of its sale.

will the price set on my consignments ever be discounted?

Yes. After 3 weeks from date of initial consignment, unsold items are automatically discounted for the remainder of their term. Additionally, if a defect is found in items after their consignment, the initial price will be lowered at URBANITY's discretion and the consignor may not always be notified. That being said, URBANITY also reserves the right to raise the initial price of consignments if they are determined to be of better value than initially declared. Again, you may not always be notified of this price change, but you will receive your percentage share of the price increase/decrease.

what happens to my garments and accessories that do not sell?

After 45 days unsold items are removed from the sales floor and/or from the webstore and are stored. Consignors are required to make a pick up request by the end of term in order to pick up their unsold items. Any items not picked up one week after their end of term date will be donated. URBANITY will happily donate any unwanted items at the consignor's request to local charities chosen by URBANITY.
